Sea Survival (Global Wind Organisation)

This course is for those who aspire to work in offshore wind turbines for wind energy manufacturers at sea. The training is conducted according to the GWO-Basic Safety Training, Sea Survival standard (Global Wind Organisation).

This course equips you with the required knowledge to handle challenges specific to offshore wind energy work. It is suitable for, among others, assemblers, electricians, inspectors, technicians, and more. Upon completion and successful training, you will be awarded the international certificate, valid for two years.

The Global Wind Organisation (GWO) is an association of wind turbine owners and manufacturers aiming to support a injury-free working environment within the wind energy industry. GWO has developed a standard for basic safety training, Basic Safety Training. Vestas, Siemens, Suzlon, and Vattenfall are some of the companies behind the standard and have requirements for undergoing the training to gain access to their towers.

You must be 18 years old to participate in the course.

We prioritize your safety, and our basic safety training includes activities that can be physically demanding and potentially stressful. To ensure your well-being and ability to fully participate, GWO requires all participants to complete a medical self-assessment before engaging in practical exercises.

The training adheres to the directives set by the Global Wind Organisation (GWO) and covers the following aspects:

  • Global and national legislation
  • Knowledge of hazards and symptoms related to hypothermia and drowning
  • Personal protective equipment and life-saving appliances
  • Understanding of emergency procedures and safety on installations, vessels, and wind turbine generators (WTG)
  • Understanding of the advantages and limitations of various Life-Saving Appliances
  • (LSA) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) typically used in the wind power industry
  • First aid treatment of “Man Overboard” (MOB)
  • Evacuation from WTG to water using evacuation equipment
  • Life rafts
  • Helicopter rescue from water
  • Safe transfer between quay and vessel, vessel to WTG, and vessel to vessel

The course takes place on board at our modern training facilities for maritime safety in Frihamnen. The course includes both theoretical and practical components.

The course is not preceded by digital pre-studies.

We recommend that participants bring:

  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Durable clothing
  • Gloves
  • Helmet
  • Sturdy shoes

If using personal PPE, the booking company guarantees that the equipment is inspected according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If any of the above items are unavailable or cannot be brought, fall protection equipment, helmets, and gloves can be borrowed on-site if the course is held at one of our facilities.

Good to know:

  • Showers and changing rooms are available.
  • All protective equipment will be provided by us.
  • Lunch as well as morning and afternoon refreshments are included in the coursefee.
  • Upon course commencement, you will receive a water bottle from us.

For a passing grade, participants must attend all theoretical and practical sessions and achieve a passing grade in each.

Upon completion of the course, participants will be awarded a GWO certificate. The certificate is valid for 2 years.

Jag kommer med bil, var kan jag parkera?

Det finns betalparkering på fler platser i Frihamnen, bara några minuters promenad från Stockholm Training Port. Vi rekommenderar parkering vid Ica Kvantum Värtan. Kostnad per timme är 25 kr (eller 110 kr/dygn) och det går bra att betala via biljettautomat eller app.
